FAQ

How does Holt work with influencers?
We love hearing your excitement for our upcoming books! For books that are available for review, we send out free early galleys (physical and ebook) or finished books with no obligation to post. We recommend sending one-off requests via Instagram direct message or emailing us at instagram@hholt.com. We also have a Holt Influencer Program, which you can learn more about below.

What is the Holt Influencer Program?
The Holt Influencer Program features a monthly email offer of advance copies and previews of upcoming releases. Each month, you will be able to select which titles you’re interested in receiving. We have limited quantities of each title and select influencers at random from collected requests. We do occasionally reserve quantities for new accounts, influencers who have a special connection to a theme/storyline, and BIPOC creators.

How do I sign up for the Holt Influencer Program?
If you’re interested in joining the Holt Influencer Program, we encourage you to apply in the form above or here: https://airtable.com/shrO9l21SOuqFx118 (please note: the Holt Influencer Program is only available to influencers in the U.S. at the moment).

What are the expectations if you send me a book? And what can I expect from Holt in return?
There are no explicit expectations if we send you a book. We would love it if you post about the book in some way, but it’s completely up to you! If you do post, please tag us @henryholtbooks on Instagram and TikTok–we love to reshare your posts on Holt’s Instagram story! Please also tag the author if applicable.

What kinds of accounts do you usually choose to collaborate with?
We base this on a broad range of metrics and factors including everything from photo quality, to the types of books featured on the account, to engagement on posts. It’s not just about follower count, and factors like engagement, post aesthetic, and voice matter!

What does the advance copy process look like?
We send out early copies (physical and ebook) anywhere from four months before publication to one month before. You can find information about our upcoming catalogs on NetGalley or check out our social media accounts. While we sometimes offer hardcovers, unfortunately it is not a guarantee as we have limited quantities.

How are you working to ensure that you have a variety of influencers, including those from underrepresented backgrounds?
We are constantly building lists of content creators from a wide variety of backgrounds, and have developed more comprehensive systems within our individual publishing groups to identify content creators from underrepresented backgrounds (who have chosen to identify as such), so that marketers and publicists are able to proactively identify and reach out to them.

What types of books does Holt publish/send to influencers?
We publish a dynamic list of award-winning and bestselling fiction: recent and upcoming authors include Liane Moriarty, Crystal Smith Paul, Josè Olivarez, Mehdi Hasan, Virginia Sole-Smith, and memoirs by Andy Cohen, Minka Kelly, and John Stamos. We are also the publisher of Hilary Mantel’s magnificent Wolf Hall trilogy, Susan Choi’s Trust Exercise, winner of the 2019 National Book Award, Pulitzer Prize winner Rick Atkinson’s Revolution Trilogy, thought leaders like Stacey Abrams and Elizabeth Warren, mysteries and thrillers, biography, science, popular culture, and psychology.

Holt is the home of incomparable storytellers, as the original publisher of The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, and prominent authors including Paul Auster, bell hooks, and Tony Horwitz.

In addition to the Holt imprint, the company also publishes books under the Metropolitan Books, Andy Cohen Books, Times Books, and Picador imprints.

Are there other ways to collaborate besides just posting about the book?
Yes! We are very open to collaborating in a variety of ways and welcome your ideas and creativity. Besides just posting about the book, we have partnered with influencers on sweepstakes, book club reads, Q+A’s, newsletter features, and seasonal/themed promotions.

Are there any specific stipulations influencers should follow when posting?
We ask that when influencers receive any combination of free books, swag, etc. that you disclose that you are receiving items from the publisher by using “#sponsored” or “#ad” in a prominent (or at least semi-prominent) place in your post copy. Also letting your audience know “I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review” (or the like) is also helpful.

We ask that you agree to never sell an ARC that we send you. It is for review and entertainment purposes only.

Can I get a copy of a book if I miss the request newsletter? What’s the best way to indicate interest in a book before the newsletter comes out?
Yes, we take into consideration early influencer interest and requests outside of the influencer program request form. If you see a book you’re really excited to read, please send us an email or DM on Holt social to let us know and we’ll add you to our consideration list. We occasionally supplement our influencer program mailings with targeted outreach to influencers who have posted about similar titles, are long-time readers of the author, or have expressed early interest.
